In December 2025, North Cedar Academy continued to expand its global reach through an international recruiting trip to China. Clay Jacobs, Digital Marketing and Communications Manager at NCA, attended the GE International Roadshow, a two-week event designed to strengthen relationships with educational agents, students, and families across the region.

“China is an especially important market for us, and historically, we’ve had wonderful connections and student outcomes from here,” said Jacobs.
The roadshow included stops in Shenzhen, Xi’an, Guangzhou, and Beijing. Throughout the journey, Clay met with and presented to more than 200 agents, students, and families, sharing North Cedar Academy’s academic programs, boarding experience, and student support systems.

“Connecting with agents, students, and families face-to-face is incredibly beneficial, and it was amazing to share the vast opportunities that an NCA education could provide to this audience,” said Jacobs.“From giving presentations, to shaking hands with parents, to enjoying traditional Chinese meals with agents – the connections I made were invaluable. Since most of my recruiting work in the U.S. is typically done through a screen, it was so nice to travel and connect with folks in person.”
Beyond the recruiting events, the trip also offered valuable opportunities for cultural immersion. Clay visited historic landmarks such as the Xi’an City Wall and the world-renowned Terracotta Warriors, while also experiencing a wide range of traditional Chinese food unique to each region.

“Our GE International Ambassadors were amazing. They were able to coordinate special cultural events for us to attend, as well as introduce traditional cuisines and customs to us. I literally ate my way through China!” Jacobs said jokingly.
While the trip significantly strengthened North Cedar Academy’s international recruiting network, its impact extended far beyond enrollment numbers. Experiencing students’ home cultures firsthand allows admissions and communications staff to better understand the perspectives, expectations, and transitions international students face.

“This China trip changed my life,” said Jacobs. “I absolutely returned to the U.S. as a different person.”“My worldview has expanded, and seeing first-hand the daily life and culture of many of our current students gives me a greater appreciation and understanding of where NCA – and my work in the Admissions Office – fits into the lives of stakeholders across the globe. It’s really special.”
This global perspective is crucial to the work of an admissions department. By engaging directly with students and families in their home countries, NCA staff gain insight that helps shape more thoughtful communication, stronger relationships, and a more supportive on-campus experience.
North Cedar Academy remains committed to building authentic international partnerships and fostering a globally informed campus community. Participation in events like the GE International Roadshow ensures that NCA continues to welcome students from around the world with empathy, understanding, and a truly global mindset.
